Earning An Honest Living Is Bad?

Posted in Random Thoughts on January 3rd, 2010 by Romelo Itong

In 2009, I worked for a marketing company in the United States as a subcontractor. The work I did for this company involved designing landing pages and banners ads and, as far as I know, it was an honest work. What this company do with the landing pages and banner ads afterward is already none of my business. The same is true with the websites I designed and developed for my clients. What they do with their website after it is finished and deployed is none of my business too. My only concern is that I get paid after each work is completed and delivered to the them.

Just because I created landing pages for another company or client doesn’t mean that I’m going to start annoying people with pop-ups or that I’m going to start e-mail spamming people. It was just work. I was subcontracted by a company to make landing pages and banner ads and it was an honest paying work that fed my family for several months. I don’t see anything wrong with it.

My job is to design and create e-mail promo and survey promo landing pages and other graphics for their clients with the occassional HTML and website jobs. In that 6 months period, my contacts will tell me that the designs I make are good but they will also talk to me from time to time informing that my designs are not up to par with their standards. Now this is a little bit confusing for me because how can they be good if they’re not up to par with their standards, right? O_o

I was removed from designing e-mail promo pages but was transferred to designing survey promo pages. A template was provided for me to use and I was instructed to just base my designs on the template’s design, which I did. At first, everything was running smoothly and I was commended for doing a great job on the designs I make even though all of them looked basically the same with minor variations on the fonts used, gradient styling, color scheme, etc. but they were fine with that simple style.
