I was recently contacted by a fellow San Pableño about creating a Car Auction Website for his friend who is based in the United States. He dropped by my place here in San Pablo City and we talked about designing and developing websites. He asked me a lot of questions about the processes involved in designing and developing a website and I think I was able to answer all of his questions.

He came back a few times with more information about what his friend wanted to build and his friend wanted to build a Car Auction Website. Unfortunately, the project was beyond my abilities because it will involve a lot of back-end work and I’m not a back-end person. I can write simple scripts and edit existing ones but I’m not really a coder who can write a car auction website from the ground up.{adinserter Adcode03}

I’ve worked with a few websites that used content management systems like Joomla, WordPress, Postnuke and a couple of shopping websites that used OsCommerce but designing and developing a car auction website from the ground up is something I can never do. Later that week, he told me that he found a web developer who can do both the front-end and back-end of the car auction website.

By the way, I also referred him to a local web development company operating here in San Pablo City and, in our last talk, he kinda mentioned that they are also thinking of contacting them for this car auction website project.

Going back to the car auction website, he kinda wanted me to create the design for the website and eventually work together with the web developer that he contacted. I agreed at first but, after finishing the design for the car auction website, I decided to just drop the project and give it to the person who will do the back-end. I felt that it would be more efficient if only one person will work on it specially when this other person can do both the front-end and back-end of the car auction website.

My decision to back-out of the project will also save him and his friend money because, now, they will only have to pay one person instead of two. I e-mailed his friend and explained to him my decision and he was very understandingt. I also kinda told him that I made my decision after creating a design for the car auction website. I guess he was curious about the design because he asked me for it. According to him, he showed it to his business partners and that they liked it. He even requested a few revisions done to it which I happily did.

Anyway, I’m pretty sure that they are not going to use the design I created for their car auction website and I’m not really expecting them to use it specially since I’ve already given the project to the other person and had backed-away from it.

With that said, I’m happy to say that I’m putting the design up for sale. It’s a very nice design and it is perfect for a Car Auction Website. Most of the money that I will get from the sale of this design will help me pay for a few of my domain names that are about to expire soon. If you like the design then please e-mail me your offer at romelo.itong@gmail.com.

This particular car auction website design is available in layered Photoshop File Format (.PSD). All of the images used in the design are in layers and the Photoshop version used in creating this car auction website is Photoshop CS2. Payment method accepted is PayPal.

A couple of days ago, I was able to finish and launch a new website for the Mother Ignacia Movement of USA. It is a simple website consisting of only a few pages (a home page, an about page, a news page, a prayers page, a contact page and a page to hold the forum) and it only took a few days to complete it.

I received the request from the potential client on May 19, 2011 but, because my internet went down the next day (see my post titled SmartBro Has Serious Security Issues), I was only able to work on it after I got my internet access back. It was also embarrassing because the client sent his 50% downpayment on May 20, 2011 and I was not able to respond to it.

The moment I got my internet access back, I immediately worked on his website and submitted a design a few hours later. He responded back the next day and his feedback was very positive. He was very pleased with the design but he did asked a few changes. Fortunately, the changes he asked for didn’t affect the overall design of the website and, because of that, I was able to convert the design into HTML, applied the changes he requested and created the other pages.

I uploaded the created website to my web hosting and submitted the link to it to the client for his review on the same day. The next day, I received some changes from the client but the changes were mostly about correcting typos, spellings, text changes, etc. When the changes were done I sent the files to the client but he had problems uploading it to his web host.

The client asked if I can upload it for him and I did because I do it everyday with my own websites. Besides, how hard can it be to upload files to a web server. Well, uploading the files wasn’t really hard but I it wasn’t as easy as I expected it to be because my client’s hosting package was not setup yet. I had to set it up first then upload the files via FTP. A few minutes later, the new website of the Mother Ignacia Movement of USA was up and running.

The client sent the rest of the payment and, from his e-mail, I can see that he was very happy with their new website. Click here to check out the new website of the Mother Ignacia Movement of USA.

So, if you are looking for someone to design a simple website for you, your business or organization then please don’t hesitate to contact me. Currently, I only charge $120 USD for a simple website with, at least, 5 pages.

Here is a Simple Website Template that anyone can use on their own websites. I’m not really that good at naming things so, I just called this one Green-2C-Rounded. Basically, the name kinda describes the template. As you can see from the screenshots below, it has 2 Columns, the Color Scheme used is mostly Green and the boxes are Rounded. It’s a pretty straightforward name for a template.

The template is packaged in a ZIP file and it contains all the images used in the template, a CSS file for the stylesheet and 2 HTML files (one for the Homepage and one for the Subpage). You must have some basic knowledge of HTML so you can edit and add your content but if not then you can always use a WYSIWYG HTML Editor like KompoZer and Amaya. These two are FREE WYSIWYG HTML Editors.

By the way, US Map in the center of the web page is just a Place Holder Image. You must change it with your own image or you can remove it altogether.

With just a little editing, almost every thing on the template can be changed easily. With or without using a WYSIWYIG HTML Editor. In fact, you can use Notepad and be done with it.

A couple of months ago, I was able to deliver a website for DMC College Foundation, Inc. It took me a while to finish the website because of various personal issues like having to use an underpowered computer to design and create the website. The computer I use for work broke a few months back and I still haven’t replaced it because, like my work computer, I was also broke. Currently, I am using my children’s computer and it’s the same computer I used in designing and creating the website for DMC College Foundation.

For the design of the website, the instruction given by the client was to create a design that is fun, colorful, young, hip and lively. The main color scheme used on the design was based on the school color which is predominantly green. The first design I created was rejected by the client but the second design was accepted and approved by them.{adinserter Adcode03}

Slicing and coding the design into an HTML web page wasn’t really that difficult. Obviously, I wouldn’t create a design that I won’t be able to slice and code into HTML. Believe me or not but the most difficult part of the entire creation process was placing the content on the pages. The site had lots of editorial content. Copy/pasting everything, formatting, layout and applying the various styles on the different pages took a lot of time and effort on my part.

The site also used a lot of pictures and I had to make them uniform by editing all of them. I had to resize, crop, adjust, create thumbnails and place the school logo in every one of the pictures. It was very, very tedious.

Currently, the website is up and running and can be viewed at this URL, http://www.dmc.edu.ph/.

I still have one more project with them for the school’s elementary department. If everything goes well then I might be able to start creating designs for it in the coming weeks. Besides, online computer classes are available to those interested in learning HTML coding.

Need a Website Designed?

If you are looking for someone to design you a website then don’t hesitate to contact me. Currently, I am only accepting web/graphics designs and basic website development. A good example of a basic website is Big Joe’s Cafe and this one for DMC College Foundation, Inc. Anything more complex than those two is beyond my ability.

Before my regular computer crashed, I was working on a couple of projects and one of them was a website for Big Joe’s Cafe. Fortunately, the site is almost finished. I was able to continue working on the site with the computer that I’m currently using.

In fact, the design or overall look and feel of the website was finished before the crash. You will see the design of the website below. The color scheme used on the design was primarily based on the colors of the logo which are red, blue and gold.

[singlepic id=123 w=480 h=360 mode=web20 float=center]

The design has been converted both into a WordPress Compatible Theme and into HTML Pages. I converted the design into a wordpress theme because I thought we were going to use WordPress on the website. The only thing missing now from the website are the content for each secondary pages.

The content for the website were sent to me weeks ago but I lost them when my computer crashed. I wasn’t able to backup my e-mails because the crash was unexpected. I’ve requested another copy of the content today and when I get those I will be able to finally finish the site.

Just finished my very first project for 2010. The project was to design and develop a website for a rural bank in Dipolog City namely Rizal Rural Bank. It was a basic website with only 5 pages and it took me a couple of days to finish it. The site is now live and can be viewed at this URL, http://www.rbrizal.com.

(Website for Rizal Rural Bank of Dipolog which was finished in just two days.)

I did not encounter any problems while working on this project. The client was very easy to work with and all the things that were needed to create the website like photos and editorial copy were easily made available by the client. This led to the quick completion of the website.

The scope of the project include the following:

designing the overall look and feel of the website

slicing the design and converting it into HTML

turning the main masthead graphic into a Flash animated masthead

finishing the website in only 2 days

So, if you need a basic 4 to 5 page website fast then don’t hesitate to contact me. Of course, each project isn’t the same but if there won’t be any problems during the course of the project then it will eventually be finished in less than a week.

This is a web design I created for a client who suddenly disappeared on me. LOL! It’s supposed to be for a realty company. I created this design two years ago and I happened to stumble on it just recently while re-organizing the files on my drive.

Anyway, the design is very nice and it would be a waste to just leave it on my hard drive so I’m selling it for only $10.00 (non-exclusive). Please note that the purchase will include the PSD file of the design only and if you wish to purchase it exclusively then please don’t hesitate to contact me.

To purchase the design please head on over to My Shop!

In the past few years that I have surfed the net, I have seen websites that use designs that are way too complex for ordinary web surfers. Complex designs are those designs only the designer can understand and navigate through. I am also not to keen on designs that use a lot of graphics for the sole reason of not being to view them immediately, slow download time.

Remember, web design should always be about simplicity, simplicity in structure, simplicity in layout and simplicity in design. Why keep it simple?

Think! At least 80% of internet users are non-creative people. There is a chance that they will not understand what you are trying to convey on the design if it?s too complex. Always make a relationship between your design and the content or information being served. You should help your users understand the how and the why of the design and not to force them to understand.

A complex navigation system will, more often than not, irritate users or visitors to your site. People surf the internet to get information. That?s what the internet is all about, information dissemination. If your site serves tons of information you will want your users to gain access to it at the most fastest and fewest clicks. Information that is not immediately accessible is almost useless. I for one hate waiting for a page to load only to find out that I can?t get to the information I want to go. Does it make sense? Keeping your navigation simple and direct will not only help your users or visitors it will also project an organize feel to your site.

Too much graphics adds complexity to your site?s design. Again, the internet is about serving information and what better way to present information is by presenting it in text format. Use graphics only to support all those text of information. There is a saying that a picture is worth a thousand words, not on the web it isn?t. On the web, a picture, especially a large one, is worth an additional waiting time for users. Decide where and when to use graphics or images and when you do use graphics make sure that they relate to something or related to something. Don?t let your users wait for a graphic to load only to find out after it loads that it isn?t related to anything important. Total waste of time.

Avoid too many colors. A base color and another two or three colors are enough for a website. Colors add life and interest to any forms of design but too much of it can distract users attention off of important information. Colors should also be used as guides that will help users go through your piece and to create divisions for different areas. Complimentary colors work very well. You can also use shades of the same hue and if you are still having problems with colors then just use your best judgment. The technique is if it doesn?t look good to you, then I am 100% certain that it will not look good to others.

Limit your fonts to only one family and make sure that it is a standard font type. Combination of fonts from different font family will make your site hard to read. I suggest you use verdana since it is available in all Windows systems and it is very, very easy to read on screen. Times New Roman looks good on print but on screen, well, I don?t know. You decide? Avoid turning paragraphs of text into graphics. Why? It adds to your download time because it is a graphic and search engine?s spiders can?t read them and will not index them for they can only read and index text.

It is not true that only in complex designs can you show your creativity. Actually, it is more difficult to be creative with simple designs. It’s like a paradox in design. How can it be simple yet creative? Or, how can it be creative when it is simple? You can be creative yet still be simple in your design. The idea of simplicity here is on the way you present your design. Is it easy to understand? Is it easily accessible? Do I need to wait a long time for my design to load? Am I turning visitors away because my site and my design are not for them? Ask these questions and try to answer them. Be the user. I for one don?t like to wait, I want to immediately get the information I want from the site, and I don?t want to feel discriminated just because I don’t have this or that or I am not this or that or this is not for me.

This is another site I designed for a regular client of many years. It seems that in the US, getting a delinquent paying tenant out of his rented place (apartment/house/room) can be a pain in the ass sometimes. In some instances, a landlord may require the assistance of the court to successfully evict a tenant. The site, Eviction Runners, will help you go through the process of eviction easily and painlessly.

My involvement in the project was purely frontend. I created the overall look and feel of the site (design) and coded it into HTML. From what I know about the project, the site will have a backend which is going to be developed by another person.

As always, the client was very easy to work with. In fact, after this project we started immediately on a new one and that’s already complete too. I will post it soon.

Anyway, as of now I’m not taking in too much project due to some computer difficulty. I had more than enough money to buy a new rig but I used that on my wife’s delivery. Having a new baby is much better than a new computer! ^_^
